Time of the Signs
A Contemporary Crucifixion
This painting depicts the Lord Jesus Christ being crucified today, in Times Square, Midtown Manhattan, New York. Only this time, the people are not only shouting "Crucify Him!" They are also holding up their signs and promoting their messaging on their homes and businesses. What would your sign say?
"For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucifed, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles"
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
The Gospel of Jesus Christ
All of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Sin separates us from our Creator — and its wage is death, both physical and eternal.
But God, in His infinite love, did not leave us without hope. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, fully God and fully man, to live the perfect life we could not live.
Jesus was crucified on a Roman cross, bearing the full weight of our sin and God's righteous judgment. Three days later, He rose from the dead — conquering sin, death, and the grave forever.
This is the Gospel: the Good News that through faith in Jesus Christ alone, you can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and given eternal life. Not by works, not by religion — by grace, through faith.
Will You Receive Him?
Jesus Christ stands at the door of your heart and knocks. He is not far from any one of us. If you have never placed your faith in Him — or if you have wandered and wish to return — today is the day of salvation.
A Prayer of Faith
Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. I turn from my sins and I trust in You alone as my Savior and Lord. Come into my life, forgive me, and make me new. Amen.
